Compare for yourself

It’s what’s on the inside that counts – see for yourself the inside of our concrete post and why our post is a better choice!

Compare for yourself… Bigger – Better – Stronger

ACP make a standard fence post that’s 18% larger, with more concrete which means that we manufacture an 18% stronger post (when compared to other manufacturers of concrete posts in Australia).

Australian Concrete Posts are the largest manufacturer of prestressed concrete posts in Australia. The factory is purpose built with manufacturing processes and experienced staff that ensure our products are made to highest standards and consistency in quality and supply.

Our processes and manufacturing plant are regularly inspected to maintain compliance to the highest standards and relevant authorities specifications.

A concrete post may look the same on the outside – but its not until you slice it open that you can see the difference in materials used and the manufacturing process that give the post its integrity, strength and quality.

Look at the graphic opposite and compare for yourself – This is why  Australian Concrete Posts are the best Concrete Fence Post on the market!

Concrete V’s Timber…

Step by step compare the reasons why a concrete fence post is a better, smarter choice for building fences.

Here’s why concrete posts are the smart choice!

Why choose concrete post fencing?

Historically, the understanding was that a wooden post would stand in the ground for up to 40-50 years.

Things have changed!

The facts are that wooden posts of today come from immature trees with a considerable amount of soft heart and plenty of sap wood on the outside. This means that they will only give a 10-15 year in the ground life span.

This is not good enough!

Fencing every 15 years is NOT a sound economic outcome for any farmer!

Concrete posts are the way of the future.

Only fence it once in a lifetime! Make your next fence a long term asset on your farm.
Read below to compare for yourself the advantages in logistics and costs of choosing concrete posts.

  TIMBER FENCE POSTS

WOODEN POST HANDLING LOGISTICS

The following are the steps that take place when handling a wooden post. The wages clock starts ticking now!

  1. Firstly, the wooden posts thrown off the truck in a heap.
  2. Secondly, the wooden posts are picked up by hand and loaded from the contractor or farmers yard onto his ute or truck.
  3. Thirdly, wooden posts are unloaded, all by hand, because it’s a difficult product to machine handle.
  4. Fourth, most contractors put a point on the post. To do this each post is setup on top of another at one end so the chainsaw can cut the point and be clear off the ground.
  5. Fifth, the posts is then picked up by hand again and placed onto the tractor or ute to drop onto the fence line.
  6. Sixth, after the wooden post has been driven into the ground it then has to have the holes for the wire to pass through measured on the post.
  7. Seventh, the holes have to be bored through the post.
$$$ ALL THIS COSTS THE FARMER OR CONTRACTOR A HEAP OF DOLLARS! $$$
  1. Costs – Wooden Fence posts – approx. $12-$13. PLUS cost of labour for drilling holes $4.00 per post = $16.00 per post to get timber post to same level as ACP post .
  2. Holes – Not predrilled – labour cost to measure and drill take approx. 6 minutes each post, therefore cost an additional $4.00 per post.
  3. Weight is variable at 27-35 kg – not uniform in size. resulting in poor stacking and weight for freight calculation.
  4. Durability – Lifespan of timber posts (on average) lasts only 10 years due to quality of timber available. Plus they will need replacing from rot, weathering, or termites.

CONCRETE FENCE POSTS

CONCRETE POST HANDLING LOGISTICS

What are the handling logistics for a concrete post installation?

  1. Firstly, the concrete post is unloaded by fork at the contractor yard or dropped directly onto the fence line.
  2. Secondly, the concrete post is picked up by the post driver operator and driven (takes on average less than 1 minute)
  3. Thirdly, the wire is pulled through the pre-drilled holes that come uniformly spaced and sized in every ACP concrete post.
NOTE: No manual handling!
No chainsaw use!
No maintenance!
No drilling!

This simple logistical process saves the contractor or farmer a heap of dollars!

$$$ REMEMBER – TIME IS MONEY!
IMAGINE HOW MUCH YOU SAVE WITH CONCRETE POSTS! $$$
  1. Costs – Driveable ACP Fence post costs approx $14
  2. Holes – Wire holes are predrilled uniform spaced and sized holes ready for threading.
  3. Weight is consistent at approx. 36kg each. ACP posts are smooth and easy to handle.
  4. Durability – Lifespan of concrete will outlast wood in most cases every time. Termite, rot, and fire resistant, and can be reused.

Pre-drilled Holes… saves time and money!

Pre-drilled holes will save you time during installation and money on maintaining equipment and the time it takes

Pre-drilled Holes saves time and money

For the property owner and fencing contractors, no time is wasted measuring and drilling holes, or maintaining equipment. Our fence posts are uniform and consistent in size and shape, the holes are pre-drilled to suit four or five barb wires.  Strainers have holes for Gate Kits too! Yes, concrete posts are suitable to use with heavy gauge wire. Pull wires one at a time through the predrilled holes or simply tie on mesh and plain wire.

Strong and Driveable

Made with prestressed concrete enables it to be driveable with a standard post driver

Driveable fence posts

The prestressed concrete fence posts are drivable with a standard post driver. Drop Hammer “thumper” drivers are best, however,a percussion or pneumatic are also able to be used to drive the concrete fence post.

ACP recommend that a thick rubber material (20mm belt rubber or similar) must be used to cushion the direct impact on top of the post when driving them in. Australian Concrete Posts have developed a driving cap to be used with a drop hammer style driver. The cap is placed on top of the post. Note, the ACP driving cap is not suitable for percussion drivers, however, alternative caps can be used for percussion drivers, read more about the driving caps on this link.

Before ramming in hard ground we recommend a pilot hole.*

Why pre-stressed posts won’t explode or rust…

Special recipe of wire and concrete to minimise “concrete rot”

Why pre-stressed posts won’t explode or rust…

5.05mm High Tensile wire with large amounts of carbon in the wire. This allows it to be tensioned. However, at the same time prevents the wire from rusting. The reinforcing is not like 10mm or 12mm mild steel used in residential house footings and other concrete fence posts which you may have seen explode when moisture has seeped in the posts causing it to explode.

The concrete…

Australian Concrete Posts uses 40 MPA concrete, which is twice as hard as your normal house slab concrete. We use high amounts of cement and we vibrate the concrete when we place it into the moulds. This process is what PREVENTS moisture entering the posts causing it to break apart.

The cement recipe we use does not contain lime either.

The image opposite shows posts that are NOT pre-stressed. They were made using standard house concrete with mild only steel reinforcing. You can see in the pictures opposite how they split when moisture has seeped into the posts, causing it to rust. This concrete rot will NOT happen to an ACP pre-stressed post.

This will NOT happen to an ACP prestressed post
